King Leopold II also joins the ranks of those Europeans (Edomites) that are celebrated in many books as establishing the Congo Free State, 1885-1908.
Like many other Europeans before and after him; he did so by much bloodshed of the natives of the Congo. Belgium's King Leopold II left behind arguably the largest and most horrifying legacy of all the Europeans who clawed their way for control of Africa at the close of the 19th century. He was the Congo's own Hitler
King Leopold II claimed he was colonizing the Congo to protect the "natives" from Arab slave catchers, and to open the heart of Africa to Western capitalists, and Christian missionaries.
This sounds like the all to familiar reasoning of White Supremacist control and world domination of all peoples of color.
As the makers of BBC Four documentary "White King, Red Rubber, Black Death" powerfully argue, the king unleashed new horrors on the African continent.
In the map above it clearly shows the Europeans take over of much of Africa. This is common practice if you are a European with money, power and a thirst for domination and conquest.
Belgium's, King Leopold II was responsible for the mutilation and deaths of about 10 million Congolese Africans during the late 1800’s. It is not clear if any of these people were Israelites. Because of the closeness of the Congo to the West Coast of Africa where the slave trade thrived; I believe that there is a remnant of Israel there. Never the less the brutality was devastating to the native people of the Congo.
In a letter to the King from on of the Christian Missionaries, John Harris writes,
"I was so moved, Your Excellency, by the people's stories that I took the liberty of promising them that in future you will only kill them for crimes they commit."
Missionary in Baringa
Leopold used a private mercenary force, Force Publique (FP), to do his terrorising and killing. Such was the brutality of Leopold’s Congo that those who failed to meet the rubber quotas set by the Belgian officers, were routinely flogged with the chicote or had their hands severed (the chicotte was a whip made out of raw, sun-dried hippopotamus hide, cut into a long sharp-edged cork-screw strip. It was applied to bare buttocks, and left permanent scars. Twenty strokes of it sent victims into unconsciousness and a 100 or more strokes were often fatal.
He turned his "Congo Free State" into a massive labour camp, made a fortune for himself from the harvest of its wild rubber, and contributed in a large way to the death of perhaps 10 million innocent people. What is now called the Democratic Republic of Congo has clearly never recovered.
The pictures of the former national hero does not show the cruel heart of an evil man but in his place are a number of old black and white pictures of mutilated bodies in the Congo.
